Launching the new book Palestinian Music in Exile: Voices of Resistance, we will be joined by author Louis Brehony and Gazan oud player Reem Anbar, who features in the book.
There will be limited supplies of the book for purchase on the night.
The book launch will be followed by a concert of Gazelleband, led by Reem, featuring traditional and contemporary music from Palestine and the surrounding region. Gazelleband weave Palestinian stories into a unique approach to instrumental music and have brought their message of cultural resistance to many international concert and festival stages.
Reem Anbar is an internationally renowned Palestinian oud player and musician. Growing up in Gaza, she became known as the region's first music therapist and appeared regularly on many stages and media platforms. She now performs internationally as a solo oud player and leader of Gazelleband, appearing at festivals, universities and concert halls.
We were honoured to receive and host Robb Johnson, singer-songwriter, at the Museum back in October 2015. He also agreed to become one of the patrons of the PMCC.
The pictures below show Robb on his visit, with two of the volunteers.
He later kindly wrote a great, heartfelt song for the Museum that was inspired by this visit:
