Appeal to our supporters

Since our launch event in June 2013, to which both Ambassador Hassassian of the Palestinian Mission to the UK, and the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Faruk Choudhury attended, we have welcomed over 10,000 visitors. Meantime our volunteers are working hard to ensure we keep the building open, develop the displays and run awareness raising events.

In 2015 the Museum closed for 6 months, whilst a major refurbishment took place, both of the space and the displays. Despite the closure we worked behind the scenes to prepare a series of four events supported by the Barry Amiel and Norman Melburn Trust, entitled ‘Talking about peace in Palestine’. We welcomed representatives from Jews for Justice for Palestinians for a Nakba Commemoration in May. In July the psychotherapist and activist, Avigail Abarbanel shared her personal and inside story on the Israel / Palestine situation. We premiered the Easton Cowgirls film ‘Balls, Barriers and Bulldozers’ to a packed and inquisitive audience in September, and finally in November we hosted a memorable evening with Professor Ilan Pappé, who agreed to be our first patron.

Plans are racing ahead for a series of educational and fundraising events in 2016. We are very pleased to be collaborating with students from the University of the West of England, Bristol to run some arts-based sessions for young people. We are reaching out to Zaytoun sellers in the south-west to raise awareness about theMuseum and discuss how Fairtrade actions contribute to building a stronger and more sustainable future for Palestinians. We are proud to report that we received a Bronze Fairtrade advocate award in March 2016. We continue to develop links within the wider Bristol community by running outreach stalls and customised events, to share our knowledge and experiences of Palestine and to involve local groups in actions to support Palestinians. Finally a series of informal seminars run by PhD Students researching on Palestine is planned to start in the autumn of 2016.

If all our supporters gave £5.00 we would reach our target overnight!!

Thank you.

In peace from all the volunteers in the Museum Team
